Cee Lo's musical career started in when he and three friends from his hometown of Atlanta founded the Goodie Mob, the genre-naming Dirty South rap group. After recording three albums with the group, and appearing as a guest vocalist on Carlos Santana 's album SupernaturalGreen quit the Goodie Mob to pursue a solo career. He released two solo albums in the early s, which received little mainstream attention at the time.

In a recent interview, the singer explained that he had reined in his more outre creative urges on The Lady Killer in order to achieve the megastardom he feels has been eluding him. His gambit, accordingly, has been to release a song about betrayal, bitterness and financial inadequacy entitled "Fuck You".

It's been a big week for Cee Lo Green. On Sunday, the singer performed as a rather noticeable part of Madonna's sizable backup crew at the Super Bowl halftime show and, immediately after the game, returned to his regular gig as a judge on NBC's The Voice — that other singing-competition reality show with the more futuristic-looking set, including large pieces of furniture on which Green likes to sit.
